The Chilean Documentary Corporation better known as CCDOC is one of LAVtv's great allies. What do they do? What are the challenges they are facing for 2023 and how do they see the documentary industry and the creative industry as a contribution to sustainability? We talked about this and more with Paola Castillo, its Executive Director.
This is part of what he told us:
"The pandemic reminded us of a lot of things. Issues such as mental health, the environment began to appear (...) and today, as a result of everything that is changing in the world, of technological complexities, we are in a very complex world in terms of understanding what diversity, migration, economy imply and I think that in that sense the documentary world is crossing these issues and the platform you have to share content from documentaries, as well as reflections and ideas from other areas, from other people who are working in that world, is reaching us in a very direct way".
"Today in the documentary world and in the audiovisual world in general, new professions are emerging such as the green producer, which is like the green producer, a person who today in a filming is analyzing what is the energy expenditure, who is analyzing from transportation, tickets, food, the impact involved in getting to record a territory. It is being understood that all our actions are part of the world and have an effect".
"I think the work you are doing and specifically this alliance, with this platform that is showing content, is fundamental. Knowing other realities allows us to better understand the world in many things, but I also think it helps us a lot to empathize."
"We are living in a world that is changing a lot, we are becoming more and more aware of what is half obvious, that we are built by diversities in all senses, not only of gender, but also cultural and religious. Globalizing implies understanding that we have to live with that diversity. And I think that is the beauty of sharing these contents, that apart from learning, apart from touching on topics of interest, it implies empathizing, seeing other ways of life, other ways of understanding and in that sense, growing in a common and collective reflection".
"When we are talking about documentaries, they are films that in general have a very particular language, they have a reflection, a very big research, so having the possibility that all that work is not simply available for a month but that it can remain, I think it is very important. There is a patrimonial value that is important both for those who want to know more about these topics and for us to be able to share them with others".
"I believe that the documentary sector is a community in which we have come to understand that together we do better things. We can get better business agreements, better possibilities, but it also opens up the possibility of dialogue, of conversation and that the work itself is much more powerful. It is a community that understands that together we do not necessarily think the same. It also implies accepting that there is diversity. There is a beautiful, challenging, permanent exercise of moving forward together, but understanding that each one of us has our own abilities.
